A Winter Announcement & A Lifetime of Love

I first met Brooke and Nick when my friend Caitlin and I planned a fun styled shoot in the snow. It was last minute and Nick had just landed in Buffalo, but they were still down to meet us in the middle of nowhere to create some magic. We had so much fun and it was one of my favorite sessions. Since that day we have done tons of cool shoots. From fun at the beach, to the tennis courts, they are always down for adventure.

 When Nick was planning his proposal he reached out to surprise Brooke and propose while we were shooting an indoor cozy session in their new house. I was so excited to capture and be a part of a moment for a couple I know so well.  Then came their engagement session, where everything felt exciting for their next chapter ahead. Unfortunately I could not be there in Italy for the wedding, but just from an outsider’s perspective and after years of photographing them, you could see the foundation they were building together.

And now, years later, I’m photographing them again, and this time with the sweetest news. We met on a snowy afternoon in East Aurora, bundled up in the cold, with my daughter Eliana who tagged along and got some behind the scenes video clips. It felt calm and simple. Just the two of them,  holding a sweet sonogram photo, sharing a secret they won’t be keeping much longer.

There’s something about winter that makes moments feel quiet and meaningful. The world slows down. It was so beautiful to see them excited for a brand new chapter, which is becoming parents. 

Getting to document their love over and over again is not something I take lightly. Watching their story unfold and being trusted to capture each milestone is SUCH an honor. This baby is already so beautiful and loved!

Their Love Story: Then & Now

When you think back to your proposal, what stands out the most now that you’re about to become parents?

The intimacy of our proposal was my favorite part.  We stood in our new home together, and Nick caught me by complete surprise, which is very hard to do! Everything about the surprise and being within the new walls that we would use as a foundation to our future felt so special, unique, and full of love.  Now looking back on it, I get emotional thinking about how significant it all was, and how much life would fill our future. 

What does it mean to you to be entering parenthood together?

It means the world to us to be able to start a family, and do so with one another.  We see each other as such a balance, and we know that we each bring strengths to parenthood that wouldn't be the same without the two of us.  

How did you find out you were expecting?

Nick and I knew that we wanted to be parents and grow a family together for a long time.  Nick and I found out together, side-by-side, while crying the happiest of tears.  It was very simple and easy, we were filled with so much excitement. 

Who did you tell first?

Brooke's sister and parents were the first to find out.

What were each of your reactions at that moment?

When we told my parents and sister, there was an incredible amount of joy, pride and excitement.  We knew their reactions were going to be ecstatic; however, the love that we've received from them and all our friends has only made our feelings stronger, happier and brighter.  It's been a joy sharing our news with our people, and we feel beyond lucky to be surrounded by so much love!

Why did you choose a snowy outdoor session for this chapter?

A snowy session felt right, given the season that we found out our great news. 

What was your favorite moment from the session?

Personally, we loved watching Gabby work her magic with our sonogram photo.  It felt so surreal to hold a sonogram, so fortunate, so special.  To have that captured forever feels immeasurable. 

You’ve trusted me to capture your proposal, engagement, and now this. How does it feel looking back at your journey through photos?

We could not be happier to have captured so many milestones throughout our relationship with Gabby.  Pictures speak a thousand words, and help us recall memories we want to remember for a lifetime.  We are so fortunate to be able to look back on so much and remember the moments, feelings, and love so clearly.   We look forward to showing our children the memories we made together for a lifetime. 

When your child looks at these photos someday, what do you hope they see?

We can only hope that our children will see the true love, strength, happiness and joy that NIck and I bring to one another.  

Any cravings or funny pregnancy moments so far?

I crave cereal at all times of the day!
