Braving the Chill: A Cozy Family Session in Late October

I’ll be honest, when I arrived at this session, I was a little nervous. The sun was high and harsh, the wind was cold, and that late October chill in Western New York had fully settled in. It was damp, breezy, and not exactly what you hope for on a photo day. Especially knowing the child was a toddler.

The Widmers were visiting family in buffalo from their current hometown in Tennessee. I was honored and delighted to squeeze them into my schedule, having recently shot Lauren's best friend's family as well. The moment these three stepped in front of my camera, my worries disappeared. Their energy was effortless, full of natural movements, warmth, and connection. The way they interacted with each other felt so genuine that the weather quickly faded into the background. Despite the cold, they made everything look fun and easy. The textures and layers of the wardrobe also contrasted beautifully with the leaves and foliage of the Knox Farms landscape. I loved capturing this beautiful family!

Beautiful chaos

What’s your favorite thing about this season of life with little ones?

It teaches us to slow down & be in the moment

Was there a moment during the session that felt especially “you” as a family?

I would say running up all together from behind made me think how life is so short and you need to just have fun and soak in the messy moments.

How do your kid(s) usually make you laugh at home?

Brooks makes me laugh all the time, will his quirky little smile and sweet giggles. 

What do you hope your children remember when they look back on these photos?

Certain seasons in life can feel so busy but Brooks will always know he is loved unconditionally. We may not be perfect parents but we do our very best to give him the life he deserves full of love and laughter.
